Heritage Seed Oat Trial
At the start of October we had a visit from the Heritage Seed team from South Australia. During the visit we inspected the new variety of Milling Oat that is being trialled throughout the Riverina. Comparing the new Kowari variety with Mitika the main difference so far has been the extra height in the plant and it seems the new variety is also shooting more tillers. The test will be when the header arrives in the paddock to be able to compare yields. The Kowari variety compared to Mitika also boosts a 1% better result with screenings and wont this be tested this season with the tight finish. The Kowari variety is also said to produce increased levels of beta glucan which helps to reduce blood cholesterol, again this will be confirmed once the 500 tonne is milled at the Wahgunyah factory.
Yield, screening results and further comment will be distributed post-Harvest. Any questions feel free to call Jason on 0425 202 042.
